I find it alarming how many people would. I live in S.C., so you can see how I come up with this question. On news interviews people were straight out saying they are voting for Obama because he is black, or Hillary because she is a female...
Is it right to vote for a candidate because his/her race/sex?
yes it is, vote on issues. Its sexist and racist to vote like that. I also think its voting against someone because of race and sex. Show integrity and character and choose the issues!
Reply:You are easily alarmed.
Reply:What do you think
Reply:people should vote based on which candidate supports their stance on issues important to them. It shouldn't matter what race or gender someone is.
Reply:Apparently so. Yet it is wrong for someone to vote against a person based on race/gender- interesting isnt it??
Reply:when you start attacking people, fellow kind will show their support. Blacks are a COLLECTIVE group. If ONE is attacked we ALL feel ATTACKED. Get it?
It's the way we are, we're not a group that has individualistic cultural mindsets; we value communalism.
sorta like when HILLARY cried, the women voted for her.
Reply:It shows you the true face of those who call themselves democrats. So much for diversity, LOL!
Reply:Dont vote for someone who is Black/White or Male/Female; nor do vote for someone who is a better orator and or charming. Coz if you want your laundry done, it does not matter who looks better; but once when the clothes are tossed inside the machine (which might not look good), can the machine do the best job to give you the best bang for your buck. In other words, was the world better in 90s than now, can Obama who has no track record be able to balance anything. He cant even vote YEs and No on basic legislative questions. See the attach graph to see the budget crisis
Reply:I personally think that demonstrates pretty shallow thinking. But there will be people who will vote based on pretty shallow thinking . . . can we just hope that the shallow thinkers vote in equal numbers and cancel each other out?
Reply:While I see nothing wrong with supporting a black person or female person to run for president, that should not be the only deciding factor for American voters. I am a white woman supporting Obama for president. I think he can do the best job, and I think Americans deserve big changes. But then on the other hand, I also think it's time for the white male domination stint to be over. We're equals. If you don't agree, then you need to catch up to the correct decade.
Reply:Come on let's get real. These people are all politicians. They will say and do almost anything to win. People can vote for whatever reason he wants to vote. It really doesn't matter that much in the long run.
Reply:People have a right to vote and unfortunately they can vote for any reason even if it something as stupid as someone being black or female.
Reply:No, it's the single most simple-minded approach possible.
psychmaj... down below seems to revel in tribalism "groupthink" ... hmm... somewhat primitivistic... lots of things make sense, now... from support of OJ, to support of affirmative action, to voting on basis of race...
Reply:never ever vote for the person.
it is all about policy issues and if there stance on these issues coincides with yours.
every vote counts and is important.
at the end of the day a politician will say alot and do not so much.
Reply:No but people do, just like some vote for the most attractive candidate. Unfortunate but it happens.
