What did the Angels need in Torii Hunter?

They just signed him! They already have Gary Matthew's Jr.! Now the Sox need to sign a center or left fielder. I thought he was coming to Chicago b/c of the clues in his interviews. The Sox could have Owens in CF but there is question in left. I do not trust Gonzalez as a starter quite yet. The return od Rowand? I'd love that!

What did the Angels need in Torii Hunter?
The biggest reason that the Angels needed him was for his defense. Matthews has a bat but Hunter's glove is way better. Plus you have the steroids issue with Matthews, unlike Hunter.

Sciosia will have better OF and DH options now as a result.

Willits/Anderson LF, Guerrero RF, Hunter CF --- most likely will be your OF lineup.
Reply:Maybe he might be used as a bargain chip for Miguel Cabrera, or Matthew might be shipped out. (not likely though)
Reply:Garret Anderson is getting old fast and Guerrero has had some issues that have made him resort to DH.

Maybe they want 4 regular OFers.
Reply:The Angels needed a bat to protect Guerrero plus this allows them to rotate DH between Vlad and Garret Anderson. Heres LA' s lineup next yr:

3B Chone Figgins

LF Gary Matthews Jr,

RF Vladimar Guerrero

CF Tori Hunter

DH Garrett Anderson

1B Darin Erstad

2B Howie Kendrik

SS Macier Izturis

C Mike Napoli

pretty good

Chicago wil sign Rownd
Reply:The Angels team is mostly based on pitching and defense. Hunter is a guy that fits Mike Scioscia like a glove. Im sure Scioscia had a lot to do with them getting Hunter. The Angels may not seem to need another outfielder but I dont think they are done dealing yet. It will all sort out before spring.

To the guy that has Erstad playing 1B for the Angels next year: Erstad is on the White Sox.
Reply:one of the guys above is a moron... Erstad needs to retire. In fact, he already should.

Angel's #1 Need this off season is to acquire a POWER hitting 1B to bat BEHIND VLADY!! NOT TORII HUNTER!!!

HUNTER IS A #5 HITTER NOT #4 !!!

Realistic ANGELS LINEUP

SS - Chone Figgins

RF - Gary Matthews Jr.

LF - Vladymir Guerrero

3B - Miguel Cabrera

CF - Torii Hunter

2B - Howie Kendrick

1B - Kendry Morales

DH - Garrett Anderson (he's done)

C - some scrub who can catch (defensive purpose)
Reply:I don't see why anyone was wiling to spend that kind of money on a guy who's career OPS under .800 - he'll be 33 this season, so don't expect that to change. Playing in Anaheim (or Chicago for that matter) will actually reduce his HR total.

If I told you I had a 33 year old gold-glove CF who would hit .275 with a .325 OBP and .500 SLP - could hit 30 HR and steal 20 bases - would you honestly pony up 5 years/$90m?

this is what is wrong with baseball salaries - A-Rod's contract is reasonable in comparison.
Reply:All signs point to the Angels wanting to be come the Yankees of the west coast. Spend spend spend spend......
Reply:well, the Angels needed Hunter badly

now, they have Anderson in LF, Hunter in CF, and Matthews Jr. in RF

Vladimir Guerrero's legs and knees are screwed from playing in Montreal so he's gonig to be a permanent DH now and he can play more often now

it seems like the sux could get Rowand now

i can care less about the sux though cuz my Cubbies are going to get Kosuke Fukudome!!!
Reply:As a Tiger fan I am glad to see Tori HUnter out of the central division.

You guys don't need a centerfielder! You already have Brian Anderson! *just kidding!*

Maybe he liked the money more than winning a World Series!
