Cellphones Question?

Hi, I was just wondering if someone could help me out. I have a homework question that I have been trying to figure out and I am not having any luck. I'm not asking for you to do my homework for me, I just need help!!

Question: Discuss the specific connotations Murphy wishes to convey through his use of the following phrases and expressions:

a) a cloud of locusts

b) buried alive with a loop of the soundtrack from titanic

c) Attending a consitutional conference

d) Interviews from film festivals

You can find the artical here: http://www.cbc.ca/national/rex/rex200101...

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Thanks

Cellphones Question?
There may be more obnoxious agencies of human misery and torment than the cellphone says it all

A) Mistaken for a wheat field by a cloud of locusts, - locusts devour everything, if a wheat field could feel the torment of lost it would be that there would be nothing left after the locusts were through with it.

B) I am assuming, he was talking about the song from titantic, I guess hearing the music playing over and over and you can't get rid of it would be very tormenting to your psyche

C) Hmmm....attending a consitutional conference would probably boring or tormenting because it's very boring??

D. Interviews from film festivals - I'm sure they may seem tendacious or just overwhelming tormenting if you don't like that sort of thing.

He is basically comparing all the "bad" "tormenting" aspects of life to owning a cell phone.
Reply:Murphy is claiming that tolerating cellphones is not as bad as these 4 things, but just barely. Sort of like saying, if I had to choose between going to that concert and going to the dentist for a root canal, I'd probably pick the concert, but it would be a close decision.

He's using humor though because the 4 things he says are worse than cellphones aren't at all comparable to each other. So your answer should probably pick up on the humor Murphy is using both to contrast cellphones to some pretty unusual things and then even conveying a sense of distaste for some events that some people would actually enjoy (attending a constitutional conference or a film festival) and using them as a baseline for some really bad experiences.

I hope this helps. Good luck.
